Like everything that is important, this life changing diet, requires a plan. A plan that will set the tone of your food for the rest of your dining life. Better be prepared for a healthy change in the zone. You will feel more healthy and active as maximum nutrients from your food intake is introduce in the body.

The zone diet plan always start with a research, knowledge is a must. Start with free resources in the net, or get the book by Dr. Barry Sears. There are a lot of book selection but it is recommended to start with The Zone: A Dietary Road Map to Lose Weight Permanently which offers a more general presentation, and is complete from start to finish. Pack as much information as you can, because the zone diet is not just any diet, it’s a lifestyle change. General information would be that zone diet is a balance between insulin inducing foods in the ratio of 40:30:30, 40 % carbohydrates, 30% protein and 30% healthy fats. It will be a great start for you as the knowledge will be a part of your inspiration and as an assessment whether zone diet is doable or not on your part.

Next thing to do would be to decide whether to get professional help or do a do it yourself zone diet plan. If you choose the latter, then prepare yourself for an intensive but easy planning. But if you choose to get the professional help then its an easy way to be in the zone without doing everything yourself, only discipline is required.

Do the plan, and make it a weekly menu of zone diet recipes. First month it is recommended to do an every other day plan just to give you an idea on how the zone diet will be for the months to come. After the first month do a plan everyday of the week, breakfast, lunch and dinner meals, and some snacks. Recipes are readily available in the net and also some zone diet cook books. If you have less experience in preparing foods, better to choose the simple recipes so that it will not be a burden to you, and just adjust to a more complex ones as you get into it. Think of it also as a learning experience for a new skill. Do a checklist and a little summary just to have an idea of your progress, just a record of milestones and changes that you will have. Read on them as to inpire you to keep it in the zone.

After a few months of following the zone diet plan, you will feel more fit, more active and shed those unwanted fats. You will have to maintain it also with some exercise but only simple ones just for maintenance, a little exercise is always helpful.
